what is this called?

Is it a 'partition'? How would you phrase the sentence?

When putting your plates in the dishwasher, leave one partition between each plate so that your plate will be washed correctly rather than put too many plates in and for the dishwasher not to wash them all thoroughly.

I think that 'separatesr' is a more likely term. I picture a partition as being something more like an actual wall between areas. But for me, the whole question is moot, as that's the purpose of those little spikes: to keep the plates from bunching up.
