what is this?
I see a lot of positional words with the article "the" and cannot grasp the clear reason for they being there as they are.
He plays the commissioner Decker in the TV series ...
Maybe better to say, He plays the commissioner named Decker in the TV series ...
He is the inspector Johnson in real life.
Maybe better to say, He is the inspecter named Johnson in real life.
