What is the word~ or What does the word?

Dear teachers,

I saw the transcript of the dialogue between the Interviewer and interviewee as follows:

  • Steve Kroft: What is the word, “Chobani,” mean?
  • Hamdi Ulukaya: It means shepherd.
  • I think Steve Kroft should have said: What does the word, “Chobani,” mean?
  • Hamdi Ulukaya: It means shepherd.

Is this correct?

Thanks and best regards,

David Kim

I think Steve Kroft should have said: What does the word, “Chobani,” mean? Yes, you're right about "does", but the commas are also wrong and should be deleted.
