A group of people leaving office. The building is a skyscrapper and may take a very long time to wait for a lift. So we usually get someone to ?"get" the lift so other people don't need to wait for so long.
So we ask someone to "get" the lift first.
What should we actually say ? Like saying " John , ?get the lift first please." Is there any other appropriate word to use.
TIA

Hi David, Welcome to the forums. How about "to call for"?

Thanks for the suggestion. I think "to call for" the lift sounds better than "to get". It also sounds more formal. IIs there any less formal way of expressing that idea ?
