I heard the word in the movie "The Age of Innocence". I had the DVD and watched the segment again, the word is: enfilade.

enfilade

Just FYI, the military use of enfilade is much wider than the architectural use, and almost no one will know what you mean if you refer to a series of connected rooms with an uninterrupted sightline as an enfilade.
