I am not talking about quoting.
Capitalization is for the first word in a sentence, unless it's quoting a lower case word, and for names.

I would just write it as follows.

1) character
2) fa

I know you don't agree, and I hate to prolong this discussion further. But you are just taking the trouble of going back and forth between capital and lower-case letters with no benefit at all. In fact you have the opposite result.
