What is the plural of the word "status"?

Facebook is a popular social networking site. Most of us have it. If you don't, I will explain to you why it has relevance to the question, obviously. I have witnessed many attempts at spelling or even saying the plural of status. Some, to me, were laughable or possibley even annoying because nobody could actually correct them. I've seen statuses, status's, statuss, and even stateux. Quite laughable indeed.
When I did in fact look it up on the internet, I found that nobody was confident in their answer. Yes, they confirmed in their own mind that the plural was in fact "statuses" but their answer to me seemed more like a question, like a challenge. They said there was nothing wrong with saying "statuses", but they didn't confirm that. Some didn't even give an answer, just a paragraph on how complex the English language is, and I can tell you, I don't know the answer either.
So after a long time of studying the word "status" and people's opinions and views on the word, I am left to just go with my instinct and say "statuses" the next time I nee to use the plural of status. Quite pickle.
