What is the place of grammar in the communication classroom?

0Is grammar important in a communication classroom? Do we really have to teach students grammar technically? Should we not allow them to use the language freely and find out certain linguistic structures and forms for themselves? I don't believe in Descriptive Grammar and basically stick to the principles of Prescriptivists. Am I on the right path? Thanks!     0-

0 If you are teaching ESL, both you and the students are likely to find that approach very frustrating. Give them what they need, not what theory dictates. 02br

0 Thanks a lot. Actually, have been a liottle confused whether to teach grammar or not, although I prefer teaching it really. But some colleagues of mine tell me  that that isn't necessary.But  CJ was correct, I may be waiting  forever... Haha... Thanks so much all you guys!  0-
