What is the name of the space between cars?

What is the name of the space between cars?

How would you naturally phrase this?

Cars on a train are soundproof/well insulated.

When you go from one car to the next, the space between the cars isn’t insulated as you can really hear the train as opposed to inside the cars.

You can hear the train/hear the sound the train makes/hear what a train sounds like.

You can hear the sound a train going 15mph along rails sounds like from outside the cars.

Thanks
