What is the mistake?

Could you please explain to me what is the mistake in below sentence:

"He took (the) job (in order not to) earn more money, but to live (closer) to (his) sister"

I choose (in order not to) and change to (not in order to) but I found in a forum that we can use "in order not to". I am quite confused.

Thanks a lot for all of your help
