What is the meaning of the highlighted portion?

It would break our hearts to be thrown off it

Top answer

This sentence does not seem right. You are typically thrown off a bus, or airplane, but the reaction to this would not be a broken heart. The other thing you might be thrown off of is a track or scent, but again, the reaction to this would not be a broken heart.
