What is the meaning of "stopping by"?

I found the following sentence on a movie. In that scene, one actress visits her sister and when she is about to leave, her sister tell the following sentence. I would really appreciate it if someone could let me know whether the phrase "stopping by" refers to the fact that she stops to talk her sister on her way to somewhere or she stop damaging her family.

But I guess maybe we're all a bit damaged in this family. And I do appreciate you stopping by.
