What is the meaning of (so far, before, …

Please tell me the correct meaning
I am in the zoo with my friend can I say
I have not seen an elephant (so far, before, until now, lately, recently, as yet)
If the words (so far, before, until now, lately, recently, as yet) include the time from past to now so the previous sentence is wrong
Or include the time from past to just before now so the previous sentence is right
thanks

Hi

I have never seen an elephant before, this is the first time I've ever seen an elephant.

(I stand near the elephant cage and see it in amazement !)

Thank you very much
