What is the meaning of "normalized to"

Here are some examples:

1.The EPA content normalized to protein content, increased with the shear force estimated in terms of superficial upflow air velocity.

2.Why are TBARS assay values normalized to protein content?

3.I need to check if the following radial functions are properly normalized to unit probability.

4.One may address this concern by synthesizing speech that is spectrally normalized to a nonhuman cochlea.

thank you in advance.

I'm not familiar with either EPA or TBARS so I can only comment on normalization in general. to normalize = any process by which you change the original values of a signal/(or whatever you're dealing with) to values that are closer to normal/standard values. 1 (original data - since the peak value is 0,5 the sound is possibly too low and we may wish to increase the amplitude of the signal by normalizing it ) Normalization 1.

Let's suppose that you have an audio signal with the following data (let's assume that audio signal data range from 0 to

thank you for the quick reply.

I think I can still catch the meaning of normalize, but when it was added "to", I just couldn't guess it .

with your explanation, let me try figuring out the meaning the first sentence:

When the EPA(extracelluar polysaccharides) content was normalized according to the standard of protein content,it would increase with the shear force estima

The EPA content, normalized to protein content, increased with the shear force estimated in terms of superficial upflow air velocity. (I think there should be a comma before normalized)

Basically I take this to mean

The EPA content (values), which was/(were) changed to match the values of protein content, increased with the shear force estimated in terms of superfi

Normalizing is a way of compensating for some variable. In the example #1 you provided, the variable is protein content. Suppose the researcher is investigating the effect of some treatment on EPA levels. The treatment was given, tissue samples were isolated, the cellular contents extracted, and the EPA levels measured. There is variability in the effectiveness of the extraction procedure, so

Thank you very much! I've fully got it by the explanation. You must be a researcher on biochemistry.
