What is the meaning of "if would have"

I found the following sentence on a video. Though, it was a casual conversation, they were native English speakers. What I cannot understand is what type of conditional statement this is. I mean is this a third conditional one?

What if I would've got something?

Top answer

Native speakers frequently make the mistake of substituting "would have" for "had" in the if -clause of a third conditional. It is so widespread that many speakers imitate it, believing it's correct. Thus: What if I would've got something?
