What is the meaning of growing up in this sentence?

I hope my presentations will illuminate the way our social experience, growing up learning to speak, and the development and operations of our mind interact to permit us to do the one thing we need to do without thinking about it very much, talk.

I don't understand what does he really mean when he says : "growing up learning to speak" ?
