What is the independent clause in this sentence?

Hey folks, could you help me with figuring out what the independent clause is in the sentence below:

The consumption of grapes also declined, but much less significantly to just below 50 grams, so although they remained the least popular food, consumption levels were the most stable.

I think that there are two independent clauses in the above sentence, which I've listed below (but please correct me if I'm wrong):

  • The consumption of grapes also declined, but much less significantly to just below 50 grams
  • consumption levels were the most stable

Have I correctly identified the independent clauses or have I missed something? Thank you for your help! Emotion: smile

The consumption of grapes also declined, but much less significantly to just below 50 grams, so although they remained the least popular food , consumption levels were the most stable . I would say that the main clause here is the entire sentence. The underlined clauses are embedded in the larger construction and are dependent on other elements ("so" and "although"), and hence not main clauses.
