Hi,
What is the difference between an interrogative pronoun introducing an indirect question (as you said) and a question word? Can an interrogative pronoun introduce a direct question too?

No difference. They are just two different ways of saying the same thing, just as when one person says "unmarried man" and another says "bachelor".
