What is the error in this sentence

The architect’s research shows that even when builders construct houses of stone, they still use the hammer more than any tool.

Can you please explain what is incorrect with using just 'any tool' instead of 'any other tool'? Please specify the grammatical rule being used here.

That's a good question, which is a question to me too.

Since hammer has already been mentioned, we now refer to the other ones.

Look at this:
Sharon is taller than any other student in the class.

Here Sharon is a student in the class, which is the population now.  Since she has already been considered we write any other student to refer to the remaining students in the class.

"Still" doesn't belong in the sentence when "even" is there (and vice versa)..
And, "more than any 'other' tool".

The other answer(ers) are misleading, don't listen to them.

But I would rephrase the sentence like this:

"The architect’s research shows that builders still use the hammer (more than any tool) even when they construct houses of stone."
