what is the equivalent of "second" in AmE?

the verb seond can mean to send someone from a regualr job to a different place to work, e.g. "Hank was seconded to Bermingham for another year", i was wondering how does americans say it, or it is just the same?

I have not heard "second" used that way. It is either specialized military usage, or British English.
