what is THE English for?

Hello! Could you help me, please? Am I write to say "what is THE English for...(a foregn word)?" when I need the English word or expression for the one I ask about?

For example: "What is the English for "Gutten Tag!"? - "Hello"."
Thank you!

Use "Am I right in saying?" or "Do I have the right to say?" .Both sound more natural,

'Do I have the right to say' is completely inappropriate here.

Thanks Maria and fivejedjon. Shouldn't it be "It's as if we were in the court" .Use of simple past after "as if".
