What is the difference between these two?

"before we explain it" vs "before we're going to explain it"

And which to use in the article, if i'm about to explain something, but before that i want to say a few more things.

Not an expert, but if you are going to use this sentence in an article, I will prefer "before we explain it, let's understand the background of situation" ...Why do you want to use we ? Is it a group of person who represent the author ?

I suppose both are OK but... the second sounds somewhat better to me... I don't know why though,
