what is the difference between 'the others' and 'others'?

i found a troublesome question.
??One of the most important inventions in the history of the world was the printing press. Another was the electric light. Others were the telephone, the television, and the computer.

I think that 'Others' in third sentence must be chaned to 'the others'.

what is the reason for this?
Can't I use that one?

If there were only three others, then use 'the others. If there were more more than three, then try 'Among others were ...' or 'Others included ...'.
