Pleased.  You could change the second sentence to:  It was pleasant to get her message.

pleasant is like nice.
pleased is like happy.

If someone pleases you, you are pleased. They make you feel good. They are nice to you.
If someone is pleasant to you, you are pleased. They make you feel good. They are nice to you.
If you please someone, you are pleasant to them. You make them feel good. You are nice to them.

I try to be pleasant/nice when I deal with customers.
I am always pleased when someone compliments me.

It is pleasant/nice to listen to music.
It was very pleasant/nice to talk to her.
