What is the difference between "last year" and "in the last year"

While we all know that we should use past tense for "last year"

how about "in the last year", I encountered some situations that they would use present perfect which seemed to be a fatal mistake..........

However, I "feel" that they should have some diferences,... but I don't know. I have looked at another post about this topic
in this forum, but I really don't understand what they are saying.

I am non-English native

Thanks all

"Last year" and "In the last year" are different time markers. The latter includes today and the prior 12 months, so present perfect is fine.

For example: I was in Italy last year. That means that I was in Italy and
