What is the difference between "entail" and "necessitate"?

American Heritage Dictionary defines "entail" as "to have, impose, or require as a necessary accompaniment or consequence" whereas the same dictionary defines "necessitate" as "To have as a necessary condition or consequence". What are the differences between these two words? I notice that they both have the meaning of "necessary consequence".
