What is the difference between "Are you being serious?" and "Are you serious?"

I found the following sentence on one of movies that I'e watched. I know that we usually use "being + adjectives" to talk about temporary situations. However, I cannot understand the difference between the following two sentences precisely. Therefore, I would be really grateful if someone could let me know what is the difference between the following two sentences.

Are you being serious?

Are you serious?
