What is the difference between a synopsis and a treatment?

Or are they the same thing?and besides singing in the rain, what other movie was
based around unrecorded songs?

A synposis is usually a one-pager, and is a "leave-behind" after a pitch meeting (some people say if they ask you for a "leave-behind" your pitch has failed). A treatment is somewhat longer, usually in the low double digits. James Cameron's treatment for "Spider-man" was SEVENTY pages and he didn't get the gig.

A synopsis generally runs 2-3 double-spaced pages. Some people who don't know any better will call this a greatment. A one-pager is usually single-spaced.
