What is the difference among words, which mean joining or becoming part of sth bigger?

Could you explain me the difference among these words: linked, merged, swallowed up, amalgamated, blended, amalgamated, incorporated, integrated, assimilated, took over, got together. As I know they all mean the same, but are used in the difference context, right? So when and where?
