Thank you very much.

Hi anonymous,

What does 'flatly' mean in your sentence above?

What is the difference between these two sentences below?

What are you doing?

What do you think you are doing?

Thank you very much.

Hi anonymous,

What does this sentence mean?

but the secondary meaning is quite unlikely with "doing".

Hi anonymous,

Can I use 'what are you doing' instead of 'what do you think you are doing' in the sentence below without changing the meaning?

"What do you think you are doing? You're going to burn the whole house down if you try to use the oven that way!"

The example is from the internet.

Thank you very much.

Hi anonymous,

Do you mean 'what are you doing' in that example above can be used to mean when you see someone doing something they shouldn't be doing, but it's less forceful than the 'think' form?

Many thanks.

Hi AlpheccaStars,

Is 'what on earth are you doing?' a simple request for information?

Can it be used to express the same meaning as 'what do you think you are doing?' and is there any difference between them?

Many thanks.
