What is the difference ?

Hello,

Who do you want to be in the future?
What do you want to be in the future?

Could somebody explain the use of 'who' and 'what' in above sentences, please? What is the diference in meaning between those sentences?

There is no consistent difference in intent, since we cannot become other people.; the first however, seems rather odd.

Who do you want to be in the future?-- The man in the Marlboro commercial, the President of the United States
What do you want to be in the future?-- A doctor, a lawyer, a firefighter.
