Research indicates that the characteristics we are born with have much more influence on our personality and development than any experience we have in our life. Which do you consider to be the major influence?

Nowadays, scientists tempt to assume that our inborn characters are more influential on our personality rather than our real-life experiences. In my opinion, life situations and hands-on experiences tend to shape our behavior and development, as I will illustrate in the following paragraphs.

Firstly, people who travel and work in foreign places learn a lot more than their peers who never moved from their hometowns. They learn different ways of working, eating, dressing and raising kids, they become more knowledgeable about other’s culture and more open-minded, able to see objects from a wider perspective. Secondly, those who travel abroad become more accepting of other’s habits and customs, they respect everyone whatever is his race, age or gender. Recent studies in college of arts revealed that 70% of the students who got international degrees have friends from at least three different races all over the world.

Moreover, in china studies comparing affluent and poor groups shows that people who encounter hardships during their life and had to sacrifice their study for the sake of working and supporting their families are more capable of taking mature decisions and become adequately independent. Additionally, children born in penury tend not to spend money on luxurious items and always have a detailed plan of what to do next. Therefore, it is apparent that our personality and development are molded by the life situations and experiences we have.

To conclude, I do assert that our life experiences are more important in shaping our characteristics and personality than our inborn characters, they make us more knowledgeable and accepting to others. Also, hardships make us able to take mature decisions and plan our future very well.
