If a sentence has two objects, the one you say first is the first object, and the one you say second is the second object.

What could be simpler?

I've only heard this terminology with respect to three grammatical constructions.

I gave my wife flowers. (expansion with to: gave flowers to my wife)
We bought the children some toys. (expansion with for: bought some toys for the children)
The committee appointed Mr. Hale director. (expansion with as: appointed Mr. Hale as director)

I may be mistaken, but I believe these are the only double-object constructions in the English language.
