What is o.s.?

I have a scenario text and in a dialogue it says:

Maddy (O.S.)

Maddy is one of three sisters, I looked up in every dictionary but I couldn't find a clue.

It's not a standard abbreviation.

My guess is that it means she is the oldest sister.

Thanks a lot, that was my first guess but it's written in the scenario. I mean it's not an additional info to the reader, it should mean something for the director or someone like that.

That's why I think off-stage could make more sense but I think on scene is more likely to be beca
