what is or what are?

good day all

please which sentence is right or wrong and why?

what is important to me is my books, my children, m house and my country

what are important to me are my books, my children, my house and my country

- please the pick the right one, and why it is right?

what is important to me is my book

what is/are important to me are/is my books

the first one is correct as I think, but my problem is with the second one!

in those sentences how can i manage plural and singular? how can I know I must put (is) or (are)? and how can I know where to put (is) and (or)?

I know know (is) for singular and (are) for l=plural but I get confused with such cases.

It is not a big problem, alend.leo. An argument can be made for both verb forms. It is simply a matter of how far ahead the speaker/writer is thinking when he chooses the singular or plural.
