what is meant by the underlined statement

What has intrigued me most is the arrogant assumption that it is wrong to support Modi. Famous editors and public intellectuals have gone public with their love for Sonia Gandhi and her children and this is considered normal, but unless you compare Modi to Hitler, you are an intellectual pariah.
Does it mean that one is considered a outcaste at the intellectual level?or does it mean that people boycott you whenever there is some intellectual debate?
Thank you.

I did not use the word 'boycott'. The words I used refer to social aspects; they cannot function solely 'intellectually'.
