Grammar

What is meant by appropriateness in language use?

What is meant by appropiateness or appripriacy in language use?

I really don't understand the question, yet an essay of at least 1000 words is asked of me.

Would you please help me out?

it is about "register" : using the right tone /lexis and grammar to suit the: - context - audience and - purpose.. you can easily do 1000 words if you think of the diff between how we explain things to kids or experts in a field.. or how we talk to friends compared to how we talk in a job interview or how we tell a story in court compared to in the pub or how we use persausive language rather than just facts in an advert, see?
