what is it?

Hi,

Please tell if the underlined part is an object of a preposition, an elliptical construction of a subordinate clause, or some thing other.

After coming to collegel/playing soccer for twenty minutes, he went to the library.

Thank you, Mr. M.

I think the following is an example of elliptical construction. Is that it or is it another nonfinite clause acting as something else? The word 'while' looks to be a conjunction to me, not a preposition.

While playing tennis, he slipped and fell.

You can call it elliptical, yes-- 'While [he was] playing tennis'-- but as it stands, it is a nonfinite clause acting as a sentence adverbial. Ellipsis creates different classifications.
