what is involved here?

Hi,

What should I be aware of when i am making a choice to use either of the two words "material" and "materials"?

Here is a bunch/collection of reading materials.

Here is a bunch/collecton of reading material.

The thing to be aware of here is that bunch of and collection of are words that group several things (often small physical objects) into one, so these two expressions are typically followed by a plural. a bunch of bananas, a collection of coins, a bunch of grapes, a collection of stamps . But reading materials is a rather abstract concept, so it doesn't go with bunch of or collection of very well.
