Essay & Composition Writing

What is grammatically incorrect in these sentences?

Hi, I have a problem with grammar in the first two sentences of my essay. I'm writing about a person who is dead, and I want to make something like:
Knowing a common myth that circulates around his persona, X would burst out laughing. So would his careful readers.
I do not know how to compose it correctly.

Hi, and thank you so much for your help! Sorry to bother you again, but I have one more question: Do you think that the word "knowing" is ok? Maybe "Aware of a common myth" would be more formal for an essay? Does it make any difference?

I thought about changing 'knowing' to 'aware of', but then I decided it was not an important difference. You certainly may if you like.
