What is difference between " assigned & designated" ?

Overnight parking is allowed only in ___________ areas of the campus parking lot.

(a) annotated

(b) assigned

(c) restricted

(d) designated

Which is correct answer ?? Pls explain.

Hi, Welcome to EF! Just looking at that stand-alone sentence, between assigned and designated , I prefer the latter, which has to do with the allocation of the areas for the overnight parking. It does not address who would / could park in these places.

I would say designated.

There could be several places for overnight parking around the campus, but it would have to be designated where those would be.

(d) designated is the correct answer because it is "set aside" , certain areas
