What is british humor?

On 0:33 Stephen Fry says something like ""you've not read it? well, you should. it's? hilarious. some amusing stuff in there" and many people in youtube apparently finds it very funny from the numerous thumbs up.

So...why is it funny??

If someone can clarify, I'll be delighted!

Thanks Philip,

I haven't watched too much british comedies as compared to american. I have watched coupling and IT crowd and I find them very funny and relatable. Then I watched spaced and had to wonder why people like it. I also tried one episode of big fat quiz of the year but I get too easily left off behind by their jokes maybe they are just too witty for me to comprehend.
