Mathematics is an abstract subject, but Applied Mathematics is the mathematics that is used in real applications-- engineering, technology, etc.

Applied mathematics is industry specific. what about discrete mathematics?
I came across these words when I was in school, but could not get a good answer for this question.
Discrete/Applied mathematics are these two the same or different?
