What is a continuation committee?

I'm unable to understand and so also translate the phrase "continuation committee." What is this? It can be found in Continuation Committee on Ecumenism in the Twenty-First Century, China Continuation Committee, Continuation Committee of the World Conference on Faith and Order, etc.
