What is a "bat wash"?

Does anyone know what is a "bat wash"?

I am editting a translation and I can't even figure out the meaning. They explained to me a bat wash was "a chemical expression. If you pour the bat wash into something, it binds the two substances." Whatever that means??

Thank you!

'bat wash' or 'kiln wash' is a mixture that you spread on kiln shelves so that when you fire a glaze it doesn't stick to the shelves. Or at least that's what I gathered from Googling it. So it's not to bind things, but to prevent them from binding.
