Are the following sentences correct? They are from a stand-up comedy show, where the comedian talks about missing people. I am not sure how to use the ‘what if’ structure when describing something that is happening presently. It would be great if you provided a few examples.
What if they were just snagged and they are now pets on another planet. What if there are Martians looking at their aquarium go, “wow, look at that Earthian still drinking...”

The first one works for me. The second is a bit too casual. I'd change it to "looking . . . . , and going "Wow! Look . . . "
