If they are, how should we answer them? Any of these (below) correct?
Could we answer number 2 as "spicy food"? Or could we answer number 2 as "noodles" or "spaghetti"? Or perhaps could we answer it as "XXX spaghetti" (with the "XXX" representing a name brand)?

Let us pretend that we have asked a student come up to the front of the classroom and have had him stand in front of his class. He has laid out some food on the table. Which is correct?
1. Hi, as you all can see, we have three foods on the table: apples, strawberries and a watermelon.
You would probably use three foods, because you actually have only two types or categories of food--two fruits and a melon, so the 2 types of food displayed are fruits and melons.
If you had bread, an apple, and a melon, you might say, "three types of food."
That having been said, in common usage, people would say, "three kinds of food" for your original group of foods.
