What exactly did this British reporter say?

If there's any Britons out there, please tell me what this British reporter said at 2:58 into this CNN news report:

Trump is so deeply unpopular that her sort of gilded way of smiling in his presence, never really causing a standoff, and managing spats keep the whole thing afloat -- the special relationship _________________ so many Britons here frankly.

This is as far as I can go. What's in the blank?

Also, is the remainder correct?

If so, I'd think "keep" should be "keeps" because 'way' is singular. Am I right?

Please help me out. Thanks.
