What does "toilet on landing" mean?

Is landing correct used and sentences write is said by native for exapmle:

The bathroom in most one star hotels is on the landing.

A landing is a flat surface between flights of stairs, typically half the distance between the two floors connected by the staircase.

toilet on landing means that there is a door there on the landing which goes into a restroom.

I have never heard of a 1-star hotel here in the US. Even Motel 6 has as private bathroom and it's not rated.
