What does "to raise a sentence" mean?

Dear all,

can anyone help me please? Someone proofread a paper for me. He told me to raise some my sentences (as in phrases, not as in punishment), but I don't really know what that means and I can't ask him again. Has anybody got an idea? I'd be really greatful if someone could explain or even provide an example.

Thanks very much for answering.

No idea without seeing your sentences. The most likely interpretation is 'raise their register', which means 'make them more formal'. They may sound too casual, like spoken English.
